Two novels in one volume. The first, Cranford, was originally published episodically, after Charles Dickens persuaded the author to expand on her original tale. It gives an account of life in a country town and the old-fashioned class snobbery prevailing there. The second novel, The Moorland Cottage, tells the story of a young girl called Maggie, who loves her overbearing brother, despite his occasional bullying. But will she give up the man she loves at her brother's insistence? Olive green cloth covered boards with blind embossed panel decoration to front and rear, and gilt text and decoration to spine. Various scuffs, marks and discolouration. Endpapers discoloured. Neatly inked and pencilled names to ffep. Light foxing to edges of text block and sporadically within. Tanned in places.
