Dangerous by Nature - Manning Coles. Published by Hodder & Stoughton, Hardback, no dust jacket, 1950. First edition. Manning Coles was the pseudonym of two British writers, Adelaide Oke Manning (1891-1959) and Cyril Coles (1899-1965) who wrote many spy thrillers from the early 1940s through the early 1960s. The fictional protagonist in 26 of their books was Thomas Elphinstone Hambledon, who works for a department of the Foreign Office, usually referred to in the novels as MI5 (the Security Service) although in some of the earlier novels he clearly works for MI6 (The Secret Intelligence Service). This is the twelfth Tommy Hambledon novel. Condition: Fair. Inside, the pages are a little grubby in places, but quite readable. The page edges are, however, considerably tanned and grubby, and an ink mark is to be found along the bottom page edges, close to the spine. A number is written in pencil on the rear paste-down end paper. The exterior, the cover of which was red, has faded rather a lot in parts and has some scratches on the front cover. A small green-and-white shield-shaped sticker declares the book to be from (at one time) Boots Booklovers Library, which existed from 1898 - 1966.
