Dead Ned: The Autobiography of a Corpse Who Recovered Life Within the Coast of Dead Ned, and Came to What Fortune You Shall Hear - John Masefield. Published by William Heinemann Ltd., Hardback with dust jacket, 1938. First edition. John Masefield (1878 - 1967) was a poet and writer, and Poet Laureate from 1930 - 1967. His output was prolific; his first published prose fiction was in 1905. He had much writing published in fiction poems and plays by the time Dead Ned came out; following Dead Ned came Live and Kicking Ned the following year. Dead Ned is a strange and gripping tale, set in the eighteenth century, of how Ned Mansell, a young medical student, finds himself accused of a crime he never committed. This is a rare first edition. Condition: Good. Inside, the pages are mostly clean and tightly bound; except for the page edges which are considerably foxed. The top page edges are coloured blue, so the foxing does not show here. The blue-and-white dust jacket still mostly retains its original colouring, although the spine is a little faded. Some grubby marks are visible, mostly on the back cover, and the dust jacket edges (mainly the top) suffer from a little wear and tear.
