Limited first edition of this compilation of Graham Greene's personal correspondence with antiquarian bookseller David Low about books and book collecting, number 128 of only 250 copies printed, with photographic portraits of Low and Greene tipped in.David Low met Graham Greene shortly after he opened an antiquarian bookshop off Charing Cross Road in 1933. Situated in the heart of London's intellectual community, the shop became a meeting place for the literati, and Graham Greene quickly became one Low's closest friends and most loyal clients. During the Second World War, Greene and Low served together as air-raid wardens and made plans to set up work together after the war. However, after Greene found himself involved in intelligence work, the pair lost touch and, ultimately, their friendship was to be revived after the war only through periodic visits and the fascinating correspondence contained here. This copy comes in a lined box, which may have been made to protect then book by the previous owner who was a bookbinder. The book is in fine co0ndition ( see photos).
