Chateauneuf-du-Pape is unquestionably one of the kings of Rhone wines. This exclusive bottling is a fantastic step up from the norm - and when you consider Chateauneuf's already-lofty reputation, you know you're in for something excellent. It's made by a producer whose history began with the union of two families: Marquis and Ravardel, winemakers and grape-growers respectively. Today, the domaine is still in family hands and current owner Eric Marquis is passionate about crafting wines that express their individual terroirs. He makes this bold red with vines up to 80 years old, and it spends around 18 months ageing in oak barrels to give it a silk-smooth texture. Expect flavours of strawberry, cherry and plum with floral and sweet-spice notes, plus a kick of black pepper. Its complexity and supple tannins will pair perfectly with red meats like lamb, beef or venison.
