Domenico Scarlatti: Sonate Per Cembalo part 2 (1742) (Sonatas for Harpsichord) Francesco Cera, Clavicembalo Released by Tactus 2002 - CD (DDD) The complete recording of the music contained in the first and oldest volume of the Scarlattiani codices preserved in the Marciana Library in Venice continues (part one TC 681903). Based on various stylistic considerations, it is believed that this manuscript collects pieces by the younger Scarlatti, composed over a long period of time that is not easily definable, which could partly date back to the period preceding Scarlatti's move to the Iberian peninsula, which took place around 1720. In fact, there is an impressive gap that separates the relative archaism of some pages, for example the Variations in A minor K.61, from the remarkable maturity of the first group of fifteen Sonatas (part of which were recorded in Vol.1). This gap testifies to the long period of maturation which, like a metamorphosis from chrysalis to butterfly, led Scarlatti to become the composer we recognize at the first listen. A pupil of Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini and Gustav Leonhardt, Francesco Cera from Bologna is considered one of the most inspired interpreters of the baroque repertoire, which he performs both as a harpsichordist and organist and as director of the Ensemble Arte Musica. 1.
