Double Diploma: The Life of Sir Pierson Dixon, Don and Diplomat - Piers Dixon. Published by Hutchinson, Hardback with dust jacket, 1968. Signed, with a dedication, by the author. Pierson Dixon (1904 - 1965) was right-hand man to both Anthony Eden and Ernest Bevin, when they were each Foreign Secretary. Amongst the many diplomatic roles Dixon (senior) held during his career, he was British Ambassador in Prague and Paris, and British representative at the United Nations (U.N.) during the Suez crisis. The author, Piers Dixon (1928 - 2017), Pierson Dixon's son, was a Conservative politician who represented Truro between 1970 and 1974. He signed and dedicated it to Jeremy Thomas; this gives the book an interesting provenance. Jeremy Thomas (he wrote Belgrade, 1968 on the front free end paper), enjoyed a distinguished career in, first, the Foreign Office, then the Diplomatic Service. Well-known in this area of Chichester, Sir Jeremy Thomas set up the Chichester Harbour Trust, and so was made a freeman of Chichester Harbour. Sir Jeremy died in 2022 in Bosham. Condition. Book: Good. The book is clean inside; some tanning around the page edges. Dust jacket: Fair. It is has a little wear and tear, and some fading on the spine, but has protected the hard cover well.
