This book presents a detailed account of the trial of Adolf Eichmann, one of the chief architects of and actors in the Holocaust, who was captured and extradited from his post-war residence in Argentina, and brought to Jerusalem to face trial. The proceedings were recorded and filmed, tapes being flown daily to the States for broadcast the following day. Hannah Arendt was one of those who witnessed the whole proceedings. Hannah Arendt (1906-1975) was a German-born American historian and political philosopher, one of the most influential political theorists of the 20th century. Her works cover a broad range of topics, but she is best known for those dealing with the nature of power and evil, as well as politics, direct democracy, authority, and totalitarianism. In the popular mind she is best remembered for the controversy surrounding the trial of Adolf Eichmann, for her attempt to explain how ordinary people become actors in totalitarian systems (considered by some an apologia), and for the phrase "the banality of evil." Our book is an ex-library copy from an American school in Massachusetts, and comes with the usual library additions and stamps, but is in surprisingly good general condition, despite lacking a dust jacket. The pale cloth covers are rather stained and grubby generally, with wear and frank damage to corners and the top of the spine, with the 'ghost' of a pasted label at the foot of the spine, where the cloth and lettering is rather faded. Inside, however, the binding is firm with no loose pages; pages are mostly clean and bright, with a few pencilled annotations to the first 40-odd leaves; no sign of foxing.
