Eight Wings To The North, A Flight To The North Cape
Merchant: Oxfam
Merchant's Category: Media> Books
this book is a photographic record of a challenging flight undertaken during June 1994 in two Tiger Moth biplanes. The North Cape in the Norwegian province of Finnmark is the most northerly point of continental Europe. Only the Yamal and Taimyr peninsulas in Siberia reach further north towards the polar ice cap from the main Eurasian land mass. The northern Coast of Norway, situated well within the Artic Circle, has an inhospitable climate; weather can deteriorate without warning to produce unflyable conditions for long periods. In midsummer 1994 a rare prolonged fair weather window allowed this magnificent flight to take place over the icy cold seas of the far north under the light of the midnight sun.
