The Elan Ripstick 88 W is a very worthy winner of our runner-up award for all mountain skis. It's an all mountain master that doesn't mind if it's hitting mile after mile of piste or skiing top to bottom away from the groomed runs. Amphibio Carbon Line is the key, a combination of innovative designs that uses a wood core reinforced with carbon rods and a very clever asymmetrical rocker. The result is easy handling, amazing versatility and impressive stability whatever the conditions. Terrain Type & Ability Level Terrain Type The Ripstick 88 W is most at home sharing its time between pistes and all mountain. On groomed runs it's quick and responsive, keeping up with dedicated piste models and then in the afternoon, when things are cut-up and rough, it leaves them in its wake as the trickier snow presents no problems thanks to the 88m wide waist and stability. Off the pistes it remains just as stable, positively encouraging the skier to search out all different conditions. Skier Type Intermediates and Advanced skiers, they may have great skills already and are looking for a light, versatile ride, or maybe they are still progressing, and the stability will be the big draw. Heavier, more skilled skiers will prefer a stiffer ski with metal in the construction, but thanks to the carbon rods this Ripstick is firm enough for most skiers. Overview Shape An 88mm waist works for a mix of piste and all mountain, feeling responsive on firm snow and nimble in tricky terrain, with enough width when the snow is softer or choppier to still feel stable. The long nose and tail with gradual transition to the widest points make for smooth turn initiation and completion even when conditions are rougher. Rocker Ripsticks use Amphibio technology, a revolutionary ski design that integrates both rocker and camber profiles into dedicated left and right skis. These skis feature a cambered inside edge assuring precision, edge grip and stability, while a rockered outside edge provides forgiveness, turning ease and smooth transitions. Core The Tubelite Woodcore uses two super lightweight carbon tubes inserted into a lightweight laminated wood core. These tubes run the length of the ski following the arc of the sidecut. They provide torsional stability and powerful rebound while allowing for material reduction of the core. The result is incredible lightweight response and stability. Construction SST construction uses sidewalls ensure quick, nimble and direct power transmission from the ski to snow as well as providing exceptional torsional rigidity. Key Features Amphibio Carbon Line Technology Amphibio Carbon Line technology is a combination of innovations that provide the best balance of lightweight construction with power and performance. Amphibio Carbon Line technology elevates the asymmetrical ski design to the next level by strategically locating carbon reinforcement over the inside edges of the skis to provide more power in the turn. Carbon rods inserted into the woodcore maximize weight savings and overall stability. The end result is an extremely lightweight high-performance ski with uncompromised versatility and smooth handling. Vaportip Reinforcment Vapor inserts are advanced composites integrated into the tip and tail area of the ski's core. These inserts reduce weight and vibration, dramatically improving stability and ensuring a smooth ride even in the most demanding conditions. Carbon Rod Reinforcement Lightweight carbon rods are inserted into the ski and run the length of the ski following the arc of the sidecut. The carbon tubes provide torsional stability and powerful rebound while allowing for a material reduction of the core. The result is incredible lightweight response and stability. EB tester's comments: Claire (Milton Keynes) The technology in this ski is really noticeable with how it helps you into the turn. Moving edge to edge felt so easy. Ellis Brigham was born in 1933, the brainchild of Frederick Ellis Brigham, who set up business making cycling shoes and walking boots in a tiny 'two up, two down' building on the outskirts of Manchester.

After the war, as mountain walking and climbing became more and more popular, the shop began to sell ex-WD climbing equipment and Brigham's boots with their special nailing patterns became very sought after.

Fast forward almost 80 years and Ellis Brigham now has 24 shops across the UK and a leading website, making it the UK's premier retailer for ski hardware, mountaineering equipment and outdoor clothing.
