Full title: "Visit and Conference of Delegates of the Empire Parliamentary Association from the Overseas Legislatures of the Empire during the Year of the Silver Jubilee of HM King George V : An Account of the Visit". The Empire Parliamentary Association (now the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association) was founded in London in 1911 with the aim of bringing together the various governments of the Empire to discuss matters of common interest. A number of Conferences, attended by ministers, party leaders, speakers and MP's were held between the wars but that in 1935 was described as "the most comprehensive in character that had ever gathered together at one time in any country of the Empire". This is not a report of the conference but of the activities of delegates whilst in the UK. Those activities were wide-ranging, including Royal receptions, Government dinners, receptions by civic leaders, attendance at military reviews and visits to industry (including an inspection of the Queen Mary, then under construction on the Clyde!). A wealth of detail and a fascinating account of society and the economy in the 1930's. Scarce; most of the Empire Parliamentary Association's record were lost in a bombing raid on London in 1941. Black leather covered board covers with gilt frame and title in gilt on face and spine. Gilt edges to page tops. Marbled end papers 15 full page monochrome illustrations, with several fold-outs including delegates at the House of Commons and RAF and naval reviews. Some foxing, especially to page edges, but text is clean, bright and unmarked throughout. NEW REDUCED PRICE!
