Everest interest. Geographical Journal, Aug. 1933 and Mar. 1955. Norton of Everest. Very Good. The 1955 issue includes a 2-page review of the climbing accomplishments on Everest of Edward F. Norton (1884 - 1954) by Eric Shipton. Norton (later Lieutenant-General Norton) was a very accomplished climber, reaching a height of 8,570 metres on Everest in 1924 - a world climbing altitude record which stood for 28 years and was only surpassed during the Swiss expedition in spring 1952. Norton took over leadership of the 1924 expedition when General Bruce fell ill, and was praised for his handling of matters in the aftermath of the disappearance of George Mallory and Andrew Irvine. This issue also includes a seven-page article by J. de Graaff-Hunter on "A Century of Determinations of the Height of Mount Everest". Together with a second issue of the Journal. from August 1933, which includes a 3-page update and review of the 1933 Everest Expedition, led by Hugh Ruttledge. The update (seemingly on behalf of the Mount Everest Committee) is by "JMS" (not identified), and the review is by "EFN" (obviously Edward F. Norton). This 1933 issue is in Very Good (plus) condition. See photographs.
