A fascinating item here, released in the Mid-Eighties on the "A.S.V. (Academy Sound and Vision) Ltd."-label. It features some Musical Heritage Society Recordings of Classical Guitar works, by four composers who vary wildly, in their levels of modern-day fame ... The L.P. begins with three lovely Sonatas, by the barely-known - outside of his native Spain -, Antonio Soler (c.1729-83). Side One concludes with a three-movement Sonata by - surely one of the best-known of European greats - Austrian, Joseph Haydn (1732-1809). Opening Side Two, is Austrian ultra-legend Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-91) himself, with a five-movement Divertimento. And, the L.P. finishes with two Caprices, by that Italian of somewhat intermediate fame, Nicolo Paganini (1782-1840). The soloist is the virtuoso, Philadelphia-born (1954) Eliot Fisk, who studied at Yale University and was mentored for many years by the late, great Spanish master, Andres Segovia (1893-1987). Side One A) Three Sonatas by Soler :- 1) Sonata in D major M.34, Allegretto con Ayre. 2) Sonata in D minor M.29, Allegretto. 3) Sonata in D major M.30, Allegro. Side One B) Sonata in E flat major (transposed to E major) Hob.XVI/28, by J. Haydn :- 4) I Allegro moderato 5) II Minuetto. Trio. 6) III Finale ; Presto. Side Two A) Divertimento in B flat major (transposed to D major) K.439B no.4, by Mozart :- 1) I Allegro 2) II Larghetto. 3) III Menuetto. Trio. 4) IV Adagio 5) V Finale ; Allegro. Side Two B) 2 Caprices by Paganini :- 6) Caprice No.1, Andante. 7) Caprice No.5, (Introduction) - Agitato - (Da capo). The Reverse-Sleeve (sample Photo Four) contains : Front-Sleeve still of Eliot, taken by C. Abbott (other sleeve design by P. Duffy) ; Tracklisting ; Performance & recording-credits ; Engrossing three-column essay, by Fisk himself ; Quote - dated October 1981 - from Segovia himself, in praise of Fisk's musicianship. Matrix-Runout codes :- "ALH955 AXDS-10619-1 PAG" / "ALH955 AXDS-10620-1 PAG" (handwritten). Records graded visually to RRPG grades (record/sleeve) VG+/VG+.
