This handsome volume is one of a number of academic studies of architectural history by the author, and presents the vanished buildings of Florence as painted by Fabio Borbottoni in the 19th century. Fabio Borbottoni (1820-1902) was an Italian painter, mainly of urban vedute of Florence. His specialty was the depiction of churches and city scenes of antique Florence. Giovanni Fanelli, professor of Architecture History at the University of Florence, is the author of several works of architectural history, urban history, graphic arts and photography, translated into several languages; he has been the Scientific Director of the Fondazione Ragghianti (Lucca) and is series editor for a number of titles of Laterza publishers (Rome). Franco Maria Ricci (1937-2020) was an Italian art publisher and magazine editor, known for producing limited editions featuring individual artists, the books characterised by tinted handmade paper, and black silk-bound hardcovers with silver or gold lettering stamping. Our book, bound in fine black cloth with gilt title etc on front and spine, with a pasted image of the Ponte Vecchio on the front, is in good general condition, though the exterior is a little scuffed and dust-marked generally. Corners are all lightly bumped and there is a tiny area of damage at the foot of the spine. Inside, beautiful black endpapers frame the body of the book, which is firmly bound with no loose pages; all pages clean and bright; tipped-in illustrations all present and correct, mostly placed within a 'picture frame' border.
