First published in 1922, Virginia Woolf described it as 'an attempt to write the life of a dog. Mrs Browning's spaniel Flush, who not only played an active part in human life, and inspired poetry, but was himself a dog of worth and character well deserving celebration'. This Venture Library edition has drawings by Vanessa Bell and a poem by Mrs Browning , To Flush my dog' and a note on Mrs Browning's life by Caroline Scott. The boards with Vanessa Bell's illustration and red and black letter have brown spots on the front and back. There is an inscription on the front end paper and the front and back endpapers are tanned. There is foxing on the first and last few pages.
