Merchant's Category: Media> Books
Ella Maillart died in the 1990s. She was French and was renowned as an explorer, traveller, Olympic skier and journalist. This is an unputdownable account of a journey with the British explorer, writer and journalist, Peter Fleming, brother of the novelist, Ian Fleming. They met by chance in Peking in 1937 and needed to travel back to Europe. They travelled from Peking through the Gobi Desert and Sinkiang and then down into India. Sinkiang was completely lawless, governed by warlords with fluctuating loyalties to Russia, China and Japan. This copy of the book is the second printing of 1937 and is in very good condition for its eighty-six years. . Hardback in maroon boards which show some wear as does the unfaded spine. Internally it is clean an bright with many photographs and maps. Not ex-library. See the attached images of this copy.
