Questo libro, illustrato con disegni e piantine e corredato da fotografie scattate in luoghi remoti e selvaggi, descrive le fortezze religiose del cristianesimo, dell'islam e del buddhismo tibetano, tra cui si annoverano alcuni degli edifici piu affascinanti del Medioevo, sparsi soprattutto in Europa ma anche in Nordafrica, nel Nuovo Messico o sull'Himalaya. Che si tratti di una semplice chiesa parrocchiale sul confine anglo-scozzese, del Vaticano o del superbo Potala del Dalai Lama, questi edifici sono tutti legati da uno scopo comune, quello di difendere la "vera fede" dagli assalti dei miscredenti, ma presentano una grande varieta di forme. Strutture che Peter Harrison descrive doviziosamente prendendo in considerazione molteplici punti di vista, dallo storico al militare all'architettonico. Book in very good condition.
