Our book is photographed for you to see. Our book is in fair to good condition given its age which is clearly visible from all the photos, bumped corners and spine ends, tanning, rough cut to top and side edges.Frans Hals 1582 -1666) was a Dutch Golden Age painter, normally of portraits, who lived and worked in Haarlem. An in-depth introduction to the life and work of Dutch master Frans Hals the Elder, a highly acclaimed portrait painter in the Golden Age. Hals lived and worked in Haarlem and was famous for his loose painterly brushwork, helping introduce this lively style of painting into Dutch art. He is recognised for his significant contribution to the evolution of 17th Century group portraiture. Davies contributes imaginative insights into character while exploring the curious biographical and artistic absences of Hals' timeline. The book has the signature of a previous owner on the front free endpaper and a library bookplate of the last known owner; both were art lovers of some significance with extraordinary lives and undoubtedly add to this book's history and character. CAC Jeffcock of Mortomley Hall Yorkshire exhibited water colours at the Modern Gallery London in 1904. Dr Korwin Kochanowski of Polish birth, a graduate of Warsaw Univ, survived a Russian prison camp in WW2, spoke 7 languages and worked between Polish and British troops. He became British in 1949 and a member of Sussex Art Club and exhibited his works and gave erudite lectures showing the joy derived from art.
