A nice Mid-Sixties L.P., released on the ever-respected "C.B.S. Classics"-label, and featuring the renowned Essex-born soloist, Edward Power Biggs (1906-77 ; he became a naturalized U.S. citizen in the Early-Thirties, and did much to revive and maintain interest in organ music, in his adopted nation) playing seven works, each by a different French composer (France being the nation where 19C & 20C organ music was loved - arguably more than anywhere else -, by an appreciative public). The model that was employed in these recordings, was sited at St. George's Church, in New York City. Side One :- 1) Toccata in F major (from Organ Symphony No.5), by Widor. 2) Fantasia in E flat major (Moderato - Vivace), by Saint-Saens. 3) "Prece Heroique", by Franck. 4) Scherzo in E major, by Gigout. Side Two :- 1) Finale (from Organ Symphony No.1), by Vierne. 2) "Litanies", by Alain. 3) "Variations on a Noel", by Dupre. Reverse-Sleeve (sample Photo Four) contains : Tracklisting - with individual movements or variations stated, plus birth-&-death dates for all seven composers ; Brief notes on each composer, and the particular work showcased ; Several paragraphs of interesting information, concerning the St. George's Church organ (all texts by Power Biggs himself, in the English language) ; No photographer-credit for the Front-Sleeve still, showing Edward standing at the entrance of - presumably - St. George's Church. Matrix-Runout codes :- "S-61037-A1" / "S-61037-B1" (all typed). Records graded visually to RRPG grades (record/sleeve) EX-/VG+.
