From an Antique Land - Ancient and Modern in the Middle East. Julian Huxley. Readers Union/Max Parrish. 1955. 310pp. Hardback, with dust jacket, in Fair condition (yellow covers with black titling and photos of a classical arch ; jacket shows wear around the edges, with slight tears at the top and bottom of the spine, and the price inside of the front cut off ; lightly tanned ; some foxing and discolour on end papers and inside of the back jacket ; overall, however, clean and complete). With 66 stunning b/w and colour photos taken by the author A fascinating account of the author's travels and meetings in the Middle East during the 1950s, in Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Palestine and Crete. Very interesting to compare his account of these ancient and sophisticated lands then with what has happened to the region since. Described by one reviewer as '...a rich book ... a notable addition to the literature of its immortal area'
