A lovely German, double-L.P. from the "BASF"-label, which I assume is an Eighties product judging by the design - especially the centres of the discs. It features recordings of excerpts from operas, by a total of TWELVE different composers (look out especially, for the excerpt from a lesser-known opera by Giuseppe Verdi, "Simone Boccanegra"). All of these 1938-45 recordings star the popular, Vienna-born bass-baritone of the Thirties & Forties, Georg Hann (1897-1950). In the following tracklisting I have battled with my limited, German-language abilities to give the browser, the : Opera's title ; Act or scene (if seemingly available) ; Composer's surname ; and, Year of recording (see also, below tracklisting) ... Side One :- 1) Excerpt, "Der Waffenschmied" Act III, by Lortzing (recd. 1942). 2) Excerpt, "Zar und Zimmermann" Act III, by Lortzing (recd. 1941). 3) Excerpt, "Der Barbier von Baghdad" Act I, by Cornelius (recd.'43). 4) Excerpt, "Die Zauberflote" Act II, by Mozart (recd.'42). Side Two :- 1) Excerpt, "Das Rheingold" Scene 4 (Finale), by Wagner (recd.??). 2) Excerpt, "Die Walkure" Act III (Finale), by Wagner (recd.'41). Side Three :- 1) Excerpt, "Der Apotheker", by J. Haydn (recd.38). 2) Excerpt, "Die verkaufte Braut" Act II, by Smetana (recd.43). 3) Excerpt, "Margarethe" Act II, by Gounod (recd.'42). 4) Excerpt, "Fidelio" Act I, by Beethoven (recd.'42). 5) Excerpt, "Simone Boccanegra" Act I, by Verdi (recd.41). 6) Excerpt, "Rigoletto" (Finale), by Verdi (recd.'42). Side Four :- 1) Excerpt, "Cavalleria rusticana", by Mascagni (recd.45). 2) Excerpt, "Tosca" Act I, by Puccini (recd.'42). 3) Excerpt "Capriccio", by R. Strauss (recd.1942). (Photo Two : Side1. Photo Three : Side3) Gatefold-Sleeve (sample Photo Four) contains : Five, fantastic-quality mono stills from Hann's career, with a helpful guide supplied, but no years or photographer-credits ; Informative & interesting essay, by anon. sadly, printed in English, German & French languages. Reverse-Sleeve (sample Photo Five) contains the tracklisting, including : Composers' full names, plus birth-and-death dates ; Expanded "titles" of excerpts ; Credits for conductors, orchestras, choirs, choir-directors, leading co-vocalists (inc. voice-types), etc.. ; Tragically, no artist-credit for the Front-Sleeve portrait of Hann (that I could find). Matrix-Runout codes :- Disc1: "A-1174 A1/M3A Made In Germany" / "A-1174 B1/M3A Made In Germany". Disc2 :"A-1175 A1/M3A Made In Germany" / "A-1175 B1/M3A Made In Germany".
