A remarkable and interesting work by Professor Georgio Levi Dellavida who was successively Professor of Arabic in the Instituto Orientale, Naples; Professor of Semitic Languages in the University of Turin; Professor of Semitic Languages in the University of Rome; and Professor of Arabic in the University of Pennsylvania. This book chronicles the remarkable career of a wandering Scot of the seventeenth century, George Strachan, a native of the Mearns, probably a member of the Thornton family, who travelled much in the Near and Middle East, became one of the greatest Oriental scholars of his time, and acquired a unique collection of Arabic and Persian manuscripts. Book is in Good Condition. Some foxing. Spine is intact. Some signs of previous ownership evident at the green cover board.
