Beautiful Antique Georgian silver & rose gold paste black dot brooch circa early late 1700s - early 1800s. Dimensions, 53.7mm long x 35.2mm wide Weight 21.4 grams Each of these stones have been hand cut & are calibrated to fit perfectly within the settings, each stone being an individual masterpiece. The paste stones are foil backed to a closed back setting having the distinctive black dot that mimics the pavilion culet of the old cut diamonds of the time & sparkle impressively. Their captivating glitter is warm & twinkling as being viewed by candlelight. This particular brooch may have started light as a buckle & historically converted to a brooch. The fine detail with the gold trim to the inner halo that has been intricately chased & engraved, is a particularly beautiful feature. With its original C hook fastener & unsprung pin. All in old silver & untested gold which we have only gently cleaned so as not to spoil the hundreds of years of patina which form part of the historic narrative of this amazing piece, some pastes are slightly discoloured, this only adds to the allure of this delightful piece. A large & singularly impressive brooch suitable to wear with care, or for the collector of fine paste jewellery. As with any antique piece of this age & era they are signs of subtle wear commensurate with its age. Paste Jewellery was worn at the grandest events & still remain highly sought after.
