Two books that young mothers found invaluable in the past. Getting Ready to be a Mother is by Carolyn Conant van Blarcom, an American nurse and midwife reformer. This 1938 edition was the first UK edition. As well as copious information it has 97 illustrations. The dust jacket has damaged corners but it is rare to find a copy that still has its dust jacket. 19 x 14cm, 315 pages, published by Macmillan & Co. The Young Wives Advice Book was written by George Black, a Scottish physician and vegetarian hotel operator who promoted wholefoods. 17 x 11cm, 125 pages, published by Ward, Lock & Co.
