The Glass Kowhai Leaf Earrings by Stone Arrow Jewellery. These earrings are cut from recycled glass, tumbled for a smooth finish and sandblasted with our motif design based on the New Zealand native kwhai tree. Hooks handcrafted from recycled Sterling Silver. Traditionally Mori used the flexible kwhai branches as a construction material in their houses and to snare birds. The kwhai flowers were a source of yellow dye. They also used the kwhai tree as medicine. The bark was heated and processed into a poultice to treat wounds, or rubbed on a sore back, or made into an infusion to treat bruising or muscular pains. Kwhai was also said to be good for healing the wounds of seal bites. Kwhai trees are highly prized by Mori. Earring length: 35mm (1. 4in) not including hooks. By New Zealand designer Heidi Gilgenberg. Due to the nature of the process and the use of recycled materials, colour and size may vary slightly from the photos. Glass sources: Green - Jagermeister Schnapps or Wine bottle. Light Blue - Bombay Sapphire Gin. Dark Blue - Weleda Oil or Wine bottle. Red & Purple - Old windows.
