My oh my, this Reposado is as elegant as your finest Single Malt. Many things have changed since tavern owner Lazaro Gallardo began crafting tequila in 1857 at Hacienda Los Camichines in the Highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. Not everything has, though - the Sellecion Suave process he invented remains the same. What that might be, you wonder? Well, in Spanish, suave means smooth and Gallardo was the first Tequila Master Distiller to begin adding the richer, older and smoother tequila reserves to the blend to produce one that would be smoother than them all. The business is still family-owned today with several generations passing the know-how down to the next one - what an incredible gene pool, right! Even the bottle you'll get today, inspired by the Art Deco style, was designed by Lazaro's son Luciano back in 1920. In their core range, you'll find Gran Centenario Reposado. Made from 100% agave that needs from 10-12 years to reach maturity, this Reposado spends an undisclosed amount of time in charred, new French Limousin oak barrels. What we do know is that it must be anywhere from 2 months to a year as a Reposado does. Plus, there's the Sellecion Suave process that adds the older Tequila reserves. Translated into the language of taste buds, for Gran Centenario Reposado this means a balanced and smooth palate of sweet cooked agave, hints of oak, toasted almonds, clove and vanilla.
