The Grandeur that was Rome - a survey of Roman culture and civilisation, by J.C. Stobart who was a lecturer in History at Trinity College, Cambridge. This is a first edition from 1912, published by Sidgwick & Jackson Ltd, London; and includes many illustrations. Chapter titles are : 1. The Beginnings of Rome (from circa 753 B.C.) 2. Conquest 3. The Last Century of the Republic 4. Augustus 5. Augustan Rome 6. The Growth of the Empire ( to circa 527 A.D.) Hardback- quarter bound in brown leather with gilt lettering on spine, otherwise clothbound in brown. Spine has rubbing in parts and some wear. Cover has wear commensurate with age. Book is in intact and pages are in good clean condition generally but with some ageing as can be expected for a book of this age.
