Sir Herbert Hamilton Harty was an Irish composer, conductor, pianist and organist. After an early career as a church organist in his native Ireland, Harty moved to London at about age 20, soon becoming a well-known piano accompanist. The Musical Times called him "the prince of accompanists" This boxed set of 3 CDs of Harty's Orchestral works includes his violin concerto, piano concerto, the Irish Symphony and various airs and other works. The collection is performed by the Ulster Orchestra conducted by Bryden Thomson. Disc One- Violin Concerto (Ralph Holmes, violin) Piano Concerto (Malcolm Binns, piano) Disc Two- The Children of Lir Variations on a Dublin Air (Ralph Holmes, violin) The Londonderry Air Ode to Nightingale (Heather Harper, soprano) Disc Three- A Comedy Overture An Irish Symphony In Ireland With the Wild Geese CDs and box in very good condition. Box is a bit faded on edges and spine.
