Our leather is made from J & FJ Bakers leather hides, which is Britain's only remaining oak bark tannery. They have been producing leather since 1862 at their tannery which dates all the way back to Roman times. This means generations of knowledge have perfected the process to produce luxury, hardwearing & unique leather with superior tensile strength. All our leather is natural, locally & sustainably sourced from beef cattle raised in Devon (predominantly free-range farming) Each piece of leather is tanned for over a year to preserve all the natural strength & beauty of the hide. This process protects the skin's natural fibres making our leather (and your product) stronger & more durable than any other veg tan leather products. Unlike modern tanning methods that are more widely used. The oak bark that is used to tan the hides is made from start to finish at Bakers tannery using trees from the UK. The leather is put through a 400 year old mechanism run by a water wheel that uses water from the River Coly in Devon. Experts then finish the leather by hand with Bakers own special blend of natural oils & greases. This tanning method along with centuries of skilled craftmanship & tradition is what enables us to give you such a unique & high-quality product. The quality continues to the engraving & finish of our product. Our machinery is top quality, giving you a precision finish on your engraving. Your engraving is permanent, & unlike other methods of decoration it will not fade or wear away.
