Hawaii's Story by Hawaii's Queen (Liliuokalani). Softback, 2020. The book is in Very Good Plus condition, with just very slight bowing of the spine and a white label to the rear cover. See photographs. Although the copyright page shows the original publication date of 1898, this is a modern facsimile edition, published by Wildside Press in 2020. Hawaii's Story by Hawaii's Queen is written by Queen Liliuokalani, the last monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaii. It was published in 1898, five years after the overthrow of the Kingdom. In it, Liliuokalani gives her account of her upbringing, her accession to the throne, the overthrow of her government by pro-American forces, her appeals to the United States to restore the Hawaiian monarchy, and her arrest and trial following an unsuccessful 1895 rebellion against the Republic of Hawaii. Her appeals immediately after the Hawaiian Revolution were taken up by U.S. President Grover Cleveland, but Congress produced the Morgan Report in 1894 which concluded that the U.S. had no role in the Hawaiian Revolution. In 1898, the same year the book was originally published, Hawaii was formally annexed by the United States.
