Heavy Metal by George Bambery, Malcolm Holdsworth & Robert Kingsford-Smith (1994 book) 'Heavy Metal' features some of the best work of three Australian railway enthusiasts: George Bambery, Malcolm Holdsworth & Robert Kingsford-Smith. Following upon the success of their first book 'Famous Last Lines', it breaks entirely new ground by giving each photographer full rein in a chapter of his own. 'Heavy Metal' contains evocative scenes of steam locomotives at work and at rest on the railways of the world over the last 25 years. Starting with the authors' early efforts in Australia, readers are taken to the overseas haunts of some of the biggest and also some of the most unusual power operating in steam's declining years. The emphasis of the book is on the use of light and colour, particularly the saturated tones which predominate at sunrise and sunset. The authors' personal introductions are unashamedly and light-heartedly aimed at fellow railway enthusiasts. Nevertheless, 'Heavy Metal' is a gallery of images which holds the power of impress the generalist photographer and to delight all those who have experienced the magic of an encounter with steam. So come inside and let your nostalgia loose for a while. This book is in good condition. The pages themselves are intact and almost pristine but some stains are present, moreso on the sides. The hardback cover's dust jacket does have some minor marks too underneath it's protective see-through material. Oxfam Books and Music Dorchester attempts to list items accurately but as a used item this may benefit from a professional clean.
