An unusual late-1960s Celtic folk recording, captured by a small Oban-based record label - these performances by harpist and singer Heloise Russell-Fergusson (credited here as 'Miss Russell-Fergusson') constitute "another Clarsach recording that dares to be delightfully different". Side 1 plays 'DRIFTING WRACK, with Voice/SEA RAIN' Side 2 plays 'SPRING RIVER, with Voice' The blurb by Wemyess Craigie on the reverse of the sleeve gives some sense of what to expect from this private press release: "The calm serenity of DRIFTING WRACK, introducing the effective use of harmonics with gently plucked strings while the player's voice croons away softly, presents a haunting sound-picture of Hebridean peace. Then, in complete contrast, comes the brilliant SEA RAIN, where the Composer, by re-recording technique, cleverly plays a duet with herself. The sudden gusts of a Scottish sea-shower are captured here to perfection. The whole of the second side is devoted to the joyous abandon of SPRING RIVER, where again the voice is heard in wordless exultation, effectively blending with the tumbling harpstrings in another unique tone-poem of a river's sparkling journey to the sea." The sleeve was designed by Russell-Ferguson, featuring a beautiful watercolour painting credited to 'I.B.'. The record is in VG condition, and very well preserved considering that it is almost 60 years old. There are some light signs of surface wear which do not impact greatly on play, though minor clicks are occasionally audible on both sides of the record. Both paper labels are clean and intact, with minimal spindle wear. The sleeve is in VG condition, with some faint creases to its edges which are visible under a strong light, and some shelf wear to the top left corner of the front sleeve. However, these are very minor flaws and do not detract from the record's vivid cover design. A rare and rewarding find for collectors of vintage folk and small-label releases! The record will be securely posted in a custom 7" mailer with cardboard stiffeners and a protective PVC sleeve.
