Henry James: Letters To Ac Benson & Auguste Monod Limited Edition/presentation Copy
Merchant: Oxfam
Merchant's Category: Media> Books
This book was first printed in 1930 in a numbered, limited edition of 1050; numbers 1000-1050 were reserved as presentation copies, whereas 1-1000 were for sale. This is number 1007 (see image 2). The combination of letters to his friend AC Benson and a French literary acquaintance Auguste Monod was considered unlikely and somewhat bewildering at the time. See image 3 for information about this issue and other factors of publication from the Leon Edel bibliography (this book is C9 in the Edel classification). Generally good condition. No highlighting or other notes except faint pencilled notes on back endpapers which could easily be erased. However, the back hinge is somewhat weak with some webbing showing and the connection between the spine cloth and back cover has loosened. Hence a relatively low price. A rare opportunity to own this extremely scarce presentation copy.
