This hardbound book is in very good condition overall. The boards are covered in brown cloth with gilt coloured lettering to the front and spine of the cover. The cover is showing some shelf wear including: - scuffs marks and scratches - the head and tail of the spine are bumped - the corners of the book are bumped, with the boards slightly exposed on the front cover corners The binding is sound save for pages xiii - xvi which have come loose at the bottom and middle parts of the saddle stitched binding. It should also be noted that webbing is visible between the preface, and, list of subscribers page. The pages of the book are uncut and are in very good condition save for some heavy foxing to the title page and protective tissue paper layer, and light foxing (age-related yellowing) mainly to the page edges throughout the book The book is illustrated in black and white and includes early black and white photography. There is a lovely frontispiece etching which is showing some foxing, although not as heavily as the foxing to the title page. Overall this book is in a very good readable condition.
