Home-made Vintage Jig Saw "the Boy Scout - The Nation's Hope"
Merchant: Oxfam
Merchant's Category: Toys & Games
This item is a complete one-off, hand-made by E. Bontor, probably in the period 1910 to 1920, from a painting produced by Pears Soap. It measures 45 x 33.2 cm. The box has been carefully restored by our team, all old selotape removed and a new tie ribbon added. The puzzle is complete, but at some point in the past, 4 pieces have been remade (see close up photos), taking care that the grain of the wood ran in the right direction. They are nicely coloured. Reference to the grain on the back of the puzzle pieces helped in the doing of this challenging 371-piece puzzle when we checked it for completeness. The picture: After Fred Roe (Brit., 1864-1947), "The Boy Scout - The Nation's Hope". This is an early illustration of the Scout Movement for boys, which was founded in August 1907 by Lieutenant-General Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell, 1st Baron Baden-Powell (1857-1941), who was a British Army officer and writer.
