The Shetland is a British pony breed native from the Shetland Islands in the North of Scotland. It is one of the smallest pony in the world, a peculiarity which it owes to its adaptation to the rigorous biotope of its original island. The Shetland was very successful in the 1850s thanks to its reduced size, which allowed it to squeeze into the narrow mining galleries to carry coal or metals. With the development of pony riding, it became a recreational and educational animal for children, which allow it to spread around world. Horses and Ponies - Take a ride through fields with the Papo equines, participate in jumping competitions or even dressage classes. For almost 25 years now, Papo has been helping younger and older children to develop and to discover the world around them. Childhood is a time of dreams and adventures, and this was what we had in mind when we decided to create, invent, innovate with a wide range of animals or characters. One constant factor which has not changed over the years is quality (the quality of the sculptures and of the materials used) which has always been our watchword and will remain so.
