Houses & History - Rosemary Sutcliff. Published by B. T. Batsford Ltd., hardback WITHOUT dust jacket, 1960. Part of the Batsford Living History series. Illustrated. This book is about houses around England (mostly stately homes) and some of the people who lived there. In some cases the author writes about a succession of people at a particular house, in others she concentrates on one of two people. Rosemary Sutcliff was very much an accessible children's writer who brought her subjects to life, whether history, retelling of classics, fiction, or anything else. Rosemary Sutcliff (1920 - 1992) was an English novelist best known for children's books, especially historical fiction and retellings of myths and legends, although she also wrote some books for adults. This book is a fine example of the author's accessible style; written in clear and enjoyable prose, even the books aimed at children could be enjoyed by adults. She lived for many years in Walberton, between Chichester and Arundel, West Sussex, and died in Chichester. Condition: Very good. This book is in excellent condition but no dust jacket
