Hugh Thomson RI was an Irish Illustrator born at Coleraine near Derry. He is best known for his pen-and-ink illustrations of works by authors such as Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, and J. M. Barrie - also Shakespeare, Barrie, Goldsmith, Gaskell. Red cloth; gilt spine titles; worn and grubby; spine faded, spine ends knocked, edges rubbed. Cut edges browned/dusty; one page corned turned. Spotting on endpapers Illustrated with 12 full-page coloured plates with captioned tissue-guards, 16 black and white plates, and 93 illustrations in text- plus nine decorative initials, pictorial endpapers.. Contains a bibliography of Thomson's works. Previous owner's signature opposite pretitle page. Penciled ownership on front endpaper. Residue of paper sticker at bottom of spine.
