David Pierre Giottino Humbert de Superville (1770-1849) was a Dutch artist and art scholar. He was a draughtsman, lithographer, etcher, and portrait painter, and also wrote treatises on art, including the influential work Essai sur les signes inconditionnels dans l'art (Leiden,1827). Anna Ottani Cavina heads the Fondazione Federico Zeri, a center for advanced studies in art history at the University of Bologna, and teaches at The Johns Hopkins University (Bologna Center). Awarded the Legion d'honneur in 2001, she has published books and curated exhibitions on Caravaggio and on the Neoclassical and Romantic periods. She also writes for the Italian daily newspaper La Repubblica. In very good condition throughout. Some discolouration of the pages.
