IBS Test – comprehensive digestive / gut health test The IBS test is an in-depth test that gives you a thorough analysis of your digestive system and intestinal flora. We measure digestive function, digestive residues, bacteria and yeast in the intestinal flora, digestive malabsorption and inflammatory markers. Common imbalances in IBS are, for example, overgrowth of candida, pathogenic bacteria, lack of a healthy bacterial flora, leaky gut or digestive weakness. Imbalance in the intestinal flora is very common in IBS and impairs the protective function of the intestinal mucosa and our immune system. It is often said that 60-80% of people with IBS also suffer from SIBO, which stands for Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth, i.e. overgrowth of bacteria. However, SIBO is considered a secondary disease that is primarily due to other weaknesses in the digestive system. Therefore, it is recommended to do a thorough analysis of your gut that can look at the underlying factors, which you can do with our IBS test kit. However, a SIBO test is still a complementary add-on to get an even more comprehensive overview of your gut health. Who should take the IBS Test? The IBS test is suitable for you who have IBS or similar stomach problems and so far have not received the right help. It suits you who either have had problems for a long time or have recently started to experience them. The sooner you find the root cause of your problems, the faster you can take action to treat the imbalances you have. If you suffer from IBS, we can recommend that you also test yourself for food intolerances and SIBO . The first step is to remove things that can disturb your gut and intestines, whether it is food you cannot tolerate, overgrowth of bacteria/fungus/yeast, or toxins. What the IBS Test analyses The IBS test covers a wide range of bacteria, yeast as well as additional indicators of gut health. In total, this test analyses: 13 intestinal flora bacteria (see below) 4 yeast (see below) The pH value - a healthy stomach has a pH range between 1.5 to 3.5. Anything outside of this range could indicate gastric issues. Digestive residues (fat, nitrogen, sugar and water) Secretory IgA - protects from pathogens and toxins Pancreatic elastase - an enzyme that plays an important role in digestion Bile acids - play an important role in gut metabolism. They promote absorption of lipids and act as emulsifiers Alpha-1 antitrypsin - a protein that protects against you against inflammation and damaged caused by inhaling tobacco Calprotectin - when you have intestinal inflammation, this protein biomarker is present. The 13 intestinal flora bacteria the test analyses The following intestinal bacteria are the most common bacteria in the gut based on current research. These are also the most common bacteria for a healthy intestinal flora. In the right amount, all the bacteria can have a beneficial function, while they can be directly harmful in too low or too high amounts. Bifidobacterium - A beneficial bacteria that helps with digestion. It prevents infection and produces vitamins and vital chemicals. Lactobacillus - friendly type of bacteria that is helpful against gastrointestinal diseases and hence is good for gut health. Clostridium - type of bacteria that can cause diarrhoea and infections to the colon. Klebsiella - a typically harmless bacteria, as long as it lives inside the intestines. Outside the intestines, it can cause infections. Escherichia coli (E. coli)- a type of bacteria that is mostly harmless and lives in the intestines and protects against other harmful bacteria. Escherichia coli Biovare - a type of Escherichia coli bacteria. Proteus - a bacteria that is mostly responsible for causing urinary tract infections. Pseudomonas - a bacteria that causes several types of infections (like lung infections). Mostly found in hospitals. Enterobacter - a bacteria found mostly in hospitals and nursing homes. It can cause various infections to the skin, blood and urinary tract as well as pneumonia. Serratia - type of bacteria that can cause fever and urinary tract infections. Commonly found in hospital environments. Hafnia - a type of bacteria that can cause infections like septicaemia and pneumonia. Enterococcus - type of bacteria that resides in the intestines, where it helps digest food. Outside of the intestine, iit can cause inflammation and blood infection. Bacteroides - provide vitamins and nutrients to other micro inhabitants of the intestine. They can cause damage outside of this environment. The 4 yeast the IBS test analyses The test analyses the following types of yeast: Candida Candida albicans Yeast (positive or negative) Geotrichum candidum Candida albicans has become very well known in recent years. Candida is found naturally in our gut and is good for us in moderation, but if there is an overgrowth, problems can occur, which can happen after taking antibiotics, in case of incorrect diet, heavy metal poisoning, and/o
