Limited edition book of self improvement from The Brooks Press.The Brooks Press was founded in September 1898 by F. W. Brooks in Wirksworth, a small quarry town on the edge of the Peak District. It served the printing needs of the local community as well as publishing limited edition hand made books, influenced primarily by the private press movement. This volume contains short pieces by such authors as Voltaire, Herrick, Emerson, Tolstoy and Shakespeare. the initial letter of the text is cut in wood and the paper used is handmade. There is a stamp on free front endpaper commemorating the Marylebone Book Drive of June 1943. Deckled edge. Spine is starting to fray top and bottom.
