Il Derby by the famous Italian sports journalist Piero Mei is a history of the Derby run at the Capannelle racecourse on the southern edge of Rome every June since 1884. This scarce book, written in Italian was published in 2004 to mark 120 years of the Derby sand ranges over world history as well as famous jockeys and racegoers and outstanding runners. The book was produced by Hippogroup, the company that owns the course. This copy is in excellent condition. he book ends with a look at how the world may appear when the 150th Italian derby is run in 2033. This is ironic because in January 2019 Hippogroup cancelled the following month's race meetings and opened talks with Rome's authorities about the fragile finances of the Capannelle racecourse. the book may turn out to be a memorial rather than just a historic survey.
