A refreshingly eclectic choice of works is on offer, with this collectable Early-Nineties compact disc-package, released on the desirable, "Chandos"-label. It features the contemporary pairing, of : Tokyo-born (1943) violist, Nobuko Imai ; with the pianist, Roger Vignoles (born in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, in 1945) in January 1992 recordings, made at Cambridge University. The pieces covered, are : The Sonata in A major, by the celebrated Frenchman, Cesar Franck (1822-90) ; And, three works by Franck's Belgian peer - also a virtuoso violinist - Henri Vieuxtemps (1820-81, a man surely deserving of more modern attention, outside of his native country) ... Capriccio in C minor ; Elegie ; and, The Sonata in B flat major. FRANCK :- 1)-4) Sonata in A major (27mins ; no opus no. ; transcribed by J. Vieland). VIEUXTEMPS :- 5) Capriccio in C minor (3mins ; no opus no.). 6) Elegie Op.30 (6mins). 7)-9) Sonata in B flat major Op.36 (22mins). The cover opens into a 12-page, EX- condition, mono - except for the Outside Covers - booklet (sample Photo Two) containing : The lovely, pre-digital Front-Cover still by S. Maeder ; Tracklisting with movement-timings ; Performance & recording-credits ; Fascinating, one-and-half-page 1992 essay, by D. Fligg ; Brief - slightly less than half-page each - contemporary bios. of Imai & Vignoles, by anon. (essay & bios., both printed in English, German & French languages) ; Reverse-Cover still of Franck (left, Photo Three) & line-drawing of Vieuxtemps (right), sadly both by anon. ... but, both seemingly taken from "Royal College of Music", library. The CD is in EX+ condition.
