1st edition hardback in unclipped dustjacket. Gift inscription to previous owner on front endpaper. Mike Yarwood, impressionist and comedian, was born in Bredbury, Cheshire, and learnt his trade on the pubs and clubs circuit of northern England, particularly around Manchester. He made several appearances on independent television throughout the 1960s, but it wasn't until he joined the BBC in 1971 that his career took off when he was given his own series. Mike's impressions and gentle lampooning of his chosen subjects, in a mix of stand-up and sketch, made him hugely popular with viewers, and one of the biggest stars of the 1970s. His 1977 Christmas Show was watched by 21.4 million people, and was the highest-rated British television programme of that year.
