Isidore Marie Auguste Francois Xavier Comte (1798-1857) was a French philosopher, mathematician and writer who formulated the doctrine of positivism. He is often regarded as the first philosopher of science in the modern sense of the term. [source: wikipedia] Comte first laid out his theory of positivism, from the French word 'positivisme', in the "Course in Positive Philosophy" (French: "Cours De Philosophie Positive"), a series of texts published between 1830 and 1842. These texts were followed in 1844 by "A General View of Positivism" (published in French 1848, English in 1865). This book represents the first two chapters of Comte's "Course in Positive Philosophy", edited, with introduction and translation (revised) by the author Frederick Ferre. Hardback that is in excellent condition, navy cloth cover.
