This is a fabulous product : A compact disc-package, that comes with an attached, 100-page, full-colour booklet, via the ever-respected "Virgin Classics"-label. It features performances by none-other-than Philippe Jaroussky (b.1978, outer Paris), who is quite simply, THE tenor of our time! On this Early-Tennies release, Philippe got to realise a long-held desire : namely, to explore the work of a, nowadays-sorely underrated composer, the Italian baroque-specialist, Antonio Caldara (1671-1736). Specifically, Caldara had composed many wonderful arias for the "castrato" vocalists of his time ... Jaroussky is backed by The Concerto Koln - a collection of talented violinists, violists, cellists, a violonist (oh yes, the full 'period-instruments' treatment here!), a double-bassist, recordists, oboists, a bassoonist, and a lutist - who were all directed by the last facet to this line-up, harpsichordist Emmanuelle Hain (some nice piccies of the young pairing of Jaroussky and Hain, within the booklet)! In all, there are fifteen arias for the listener to enjoy. The booklet (sample Photo Two) is in EX- condition, and contains : Performance and recording-credits, including the members of Concerto Koln ; Tracklisting with timings ; A particularly nice, period illustration of a castrato vocalist of the baroque age ; Portraits of Caldara plus other figures - royal or otherwise - from 18C life ; Informative and interesting, fifteen-page, 2010 essay by F. Delamea, printed in English, German & French languages ; Parallel lyrics to all fifteen arias, printed in original-Latin, plus the afore-mentioned three languages. The C.D. (sample Photo Three) is stored in a secure, plastic holder, situated on the Inside-Reverse-Sleeve, and is in EX condition.
