A course of six lectures on the "development and insight into the structure of the universe" given for the Lowell Institute in Boston in November 1931. Topics include : The Ancients Ptolemy and Copernicus; Kepler, Galileo, and Newton; William Herschel; J C Kaptyeyn; The great telescopes; relativity and Modern theories. Of particular interest to students of the history of science. W Sitter was at the time the director and professor of astronomy at the university of Leiden. This hardback book was published in 1932. It was a library book and still has all the library admin in the book. The boards have been bumped at the corners and on the ends of the spine. The pages are a little brown from age.
