Le Corbusier and the Mystique of the USSR: Theories and Projects for Moscow, 1928 - 1936. Published by Princeton University Press, Hardback with dust jacket, 1992. Illustrated. Language: English; translated from the original French by Kenneth Hylton. Charles-Edouard Jeanneret (1887 - 1965) known as Le Corbusier, was a Swiss-French architect, designer, painter, urban planner and writer, who was one of the pioneers of what is now regarded as modern architecture. His arrival in the USSR in October 1928 to build the Moscow headquarters for the Centrosoyuz created an international sensation in both the artistic and political communities. Le Corbusier was to be disappointed, however, as Soviet authorities rejected his urban plan for Moscow. Condition: Fair. Although mainly clean and tightly bound inside, there is considerable foxing on the top page edges and fore-edge; furthermore, the top edge is covered in dust. The dust jacket is spotted with dirty marks at the bottom edge, creased at the top and faded on the spine.
