A real, eclectic treat is waiting for the lucky listener of this Late-Tennies compact disc-package, that was released on the "St. Petersburg Musical Archive" series of the desirable "Northern Flowers"-label! It contains some highly sought-after, Iron Curtain-era, Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra (St. Petersburg was known as "Leningrad" between 1924-91) recordings of three Violin Concertos - all composed by different, talented men who were each born during the existence of the Soviet Union, and who grew up in that world :- Vyacheslav Nagovitsyn (born 1939 [the city of Magnitogorsk] & died in June 2023, believe it or not - approximately four years after this package was released) ; Sergey Slonimsky (born 1932 [Leningrad] & died in February 2020 - not long after this package's release) ; and, last-but-certainly-not-least, Vladislav Uspensky (born 1937 [Omsk, a city in Siberia] & died in June 2004). 1),2) Violin Concerto, by Nagovitsyn (cmpsd. '69 ; recd. Sep'83 ; cond. Rinkevicius ; violinist Yashvili). 3)-5) Concerto Primaverile for Violin & Strings, by Slonimsky (cmpsd. '83 ; recd. '86 [no month given] ; cond. Ponkin ; violinist Stadler). 6) "Phantasmagoria" for 2 Violins & Orchestra, by Uspensky (cmpsd. '88 ; recd. Apr'89 ; cond. Dmitriev ; violinists Vengerov & Gutnikov). The cover opens into an 8-page, VG+ condition, mono - except for the Outside Covers - booklet (sample Photo Two) containing : Tracklisting with movement-timings ; Performance & recording-credits, inc. full names of conductors, soloists, engineers etc. ; Simply brilliant, four-page essay (it says "English text : S. Suslov" - hope they're the author and not just translator, because it would be criminal not to credit the author!), printed in English-language only ; A helpful catalogue of other treats in this CD series ; Front-Cover still : "Moyka River" in 1984 in Leningrad, by I. Narovlyansky ; And finally, thumbnails of all 3 composers on the Reverse-page (Photo Three - no photographer-credits)! The CD is in EX- condition.
