Letters To The Pope: Norwegian Relations To The Holy See In The Late Middle Ages
Merchant: Oxfam
Merchant's Category: Media> Books
Extract from the preface: The purpose of this book is to open a window to a reality that lies some 500 - 600 years back in time. A closer look at late medieval Norway shows that both people and society were more internationally oriented than what has been thought of in general. A good many people were on the move; Norwegians went abroad and foreigners came to Norway. A center for much of what was going on in Europe was the papal court in Rome. The rich holdings of the Vatican Archives represents therefore a most important source of information also about different aspects of the Norwegian way of life and thinking at that time. After detailed studies of Vatican Archive documents we have the pleasure of presenting a book about how the lives of Norwegians in the late middle ages were formed and framed by the supernational institution and ideology of the Catholic Church.
